Latest developments in ecosystem restoration
Follow the latest developments in ecosystem restoration with bio-based and biodegradable materials. We share news about restoring freshwater and saltwater ecosystems. Also, nature-based solutions for infrastructure projects and natural solutions for problems in the Netherlands, such as improving water quality and biodiversity. From natural water filters to self-sustaining eco-friendly shores.
Innovations in ecosystem restoration
Our approach focuses on using innovative techniques and materials. Biodegradable products play a crucial role in restoring ecosystems. These materials break down without leaving harmful residues, contributing to a more sustainable environment.
Success stories and progress
We have completed several successful projects. These projects show how effective our methods are in restoring natural habitats and promoting biodiversity. Stay updated on our latest successes and learn how we continue to innovate.
Latest international developments in ecosystem restoration
Our solutions, developed in the Netherlands, are often applicable worldwide. Some are suitable for specific regions. For example, our BESE-elements can be applied in 11 different ecosystems, with some nature restoration methods using the BESE-elements being more suited to Dutch nature, while others are better suited for international contexts. One example is a range of techniques for restoring coral reefs and mangroves in tropical areas
Global applications
These techniques are closer to home than you think. Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba, special municipalities of the Netherlands, need mangrove, seagrass, and coral reef restoration. Our methods are effective and sustainable, making them ideal for diverse environments.
International collaborations
We work with international partners to implement our techniques and materials worldwide. These collaborations allow us to share knowledge and resources, leading to better results and broader impact.
The latest developments in ecosystem restoration science
We collaborate with many scientific institutes to document new methods of restoration techniques and their effectiveness. On our “scientific publications” page, you will find scientific articles and handbooks on ecosystem restoration with biodegradable materials. This page is regularly updated with new articles. Currently, we have over 22 scientific articles showing that restoration with our bio-based and biodegradable materials is effective.
Collaboration with scientific Institutes
Here is a list of a couple of institutes and universities we collaborate with:
Various example projects
Want to see concrete examples of the latest developments in ecosystem restoration in the Netherlands? Visit our project page. Here you will find projects like coastal restoration, natural water filters in urban waters, oyster reef restoration in offshore wind farms, and salt marsh restoration in Zeeland.
Projects in the Netherlands
Our projects in the Netherlands focus on restoring local ecosystems and improving biodiversity. From urban waters to coastal areas, we apply our techniques to provide sustainable solutions.
International projects
Besides our local projects, we are also active abroad. Our techniques are applied in diverse environments, from tropical coral reefs and mangrove forests to oysters off the coast of France. These projects show the versatility and effectiveness of our methods.
Biobased and biodegradable products
Discover more about the development of our products. Learn how our first product, the BESE-elements, was created and how we continue to optimize its shape and material. Also, find out about the development of our BESE-reef paste and our special collaboration with Krijtmolen d’ Admiraal. This is the last working traditional chalk mill in the Netherlands, and now grinds oysters for our BESE-reef paste.
Innovation and development
Our products are continually improved to increase efficiency and sustainability. We invest in research and development to ensure our materials deliver the best results.
Collaborations and partnerships
We work with various partners to develop and improve our products. These collaborations allow us to offer innovative solutions that contribute to ecosystem restoration worldwide.
