80% of the shellfish reefs worldwide have been degraded. BESE-products aims to restore these reefs by:

  • Providing a 3D structure that serves as a temporary reef using BESE-elements. The 3D structures serve as a settlement substrate and decrease wave energy and predation pressure.
  • Supply sustainable mesh bags. Current restoration methods use plastic mesh bags, the BESE mesh bags are a sustainable and effective alternative.
  • Biodegrable oyster mats. Replace the plastic oyster mats with a biodegradable alternative.

BESE-products has set-up several pilot projects and first results are promising. The BESE-elements have recruited oysters, mussels and other biota like sponges and sea squirts.

Project pictures below showcase the results.
