About us

Experts in Restoration Ecology

The team of BESE-products consists of ecologists with a specialism in habitat restoration. By being active in the field of restoration, they use their field and expert knowledge to design products fit for habitat restoration.

Working with Local People

The team of BESE-products is based in the Netherlands, but works together with the local experts and volunteers on site to ensure the succes of the project.

Looking for better solutions

The team of BESE-products always aims to improve their products and to design new and even better applicable products.

Wouter Lengkeek

Marine biologist - Director

Marine ecosystem restoration. As a field biologist and scientific diver Wouter has studied the world's marine ecosystems for over 20 years. He now uses this long standing experience for the benefit of ecosystem restoration. He is one of the pioneers in the development of ecosystem restoration with BESE-elements.

Malenthe Teunis

Marine biologist - Operations manager

Aquatic ecology - Marine ecosystem restoration. Malenthe is one of the major drivers behind the BESE-products. She is active in the design of new products and out in the field, setting up new restoration projects with BESE-products.

Karin Didderen

Marine biologist - R&D manager

Ecosystem restoration. Fascinated with nature and active in the field of marine ecology. Searching for ecosystem restoration measures that work. Karin is one of the pioneers in the development of BESE-elements.

Ecologist

Director. Coastal zone management hard substrates (especially dike slopes). As a field biologist, Martien has studied the communities of algal vegetation and marine fauna on hard substrates in intertidal zones in the Dutch delta for more than 35 years. Since 1995 he is member of the board of directors of Bureau Waardenburg. With this experience he is advisor for the other team members of BESE-products.

RESEARCH PROJECTS

BESE-Products works together with Universities and research facilities to improve the design and application of our products.

Most of the products on our website are studied extensively to improve their suitability for habitat restoration. Take the BESE-elements for example. Together with the Radboud University in Nijmegen, NIOZ and the University of Florida we set-up experiments with the BESE-elements in different geographical zones and ecosystems. The goal is to find out the mechanisms behind the succes of the BESE-elements and from there determine how they can be applied in ecosystem restoration. The BESE-mesh bags have travelled the world as well. As the use of mesh bags in oyster reef restoration is proven as an effective method, we are mainly testing the biodegradability of the BESE-mesh bags on a worldwide scale. The results will give insight in the speed of degradation in different climates and the suitability of the products to recruit oysters.

If you are interested in setting up a research project with one of our products, let us know and fill out the contact form below.
